Reunion Island Coffee Roasters got a positive response to their new line-up of direct trade, Rainforest Alliance-certified and Fair Trade certified coffee beans. This got them thinking about how they could apply this same sustainable approach to other aspects of their business.
They started by applying reflective tint to the facility’s windows to reduce A/C needs in the summer months. Then, Reunion purchased a new more efficient roaster for their Oakville warehouse facility to increase the quality of their coffee – while improving their bottom line and being better for the environment. With help from their local hydro company, Oakville Hydro, switching to energy-efficient LED lighting seemed like the natural next step. Not only did it make things brighter and safer, it also reduced energy and maintenance costs.
Combined, these changes make a difference that goes well beyond energy efficiency and savings. Sharing the results has instilled a sense of pride with customers and employees, and Reunion Island Coffee Roasters is proud to be recognized among an elite group of companies worldwide to earn B Corporation Certification, based on their commitment to environmental performance, sustainability and accountability.
